Capicu Open Mic w/ Rich Villar & Alexander Reynoso
February has always been special to Capicu… it was in February 2008 that we were honored to present Piri Thomas for a rare NYC engagement, and February 2009 that we featured The Hebrew Mamita, as our first non-Latina poet.
In 2011, we are proud to present the poetry of Rich Villar – who has come to bless us with “new ‘ish!” & also live painting by graphic & web designer (and also birthday boy), Alexander Reynoso!
…
Rich Villar is a Cubano/Boricua poet and curator lives and writes en la madre tierra de New Jersey. He directs The Acentos Foundation, an organization dedicated to the development and distribution of writing by and from Latino/a writers. The Foundations programs include THE ACENTOS REVIEW, a journal of writing by Latinos and Latinas, published four times a year,
& ACENTOS WRITERS’ WORKSHOPS, a free and open-to-the-public series of generative writing workshops for poets at all skill levels, with new and exciting facilitators every Sunday at noon at Hostos Community College in the South Bronx!
Alexander Reynoso is the founder of SpunkyDesign.com, a full service graphic & web design and development company making alot of noise in the cultural arts community.
This is sure to be a monumental event, we’re already one of the hottest Open Mics in the city. Make sure you’re here to help us make history!

CAPICU
I was the featured visual artist for this event.
I displayed two peices.
Nip Tuck- a life time de silencencio 2010
I used different medium and actually hand stitched one canvas to another so i would pop out.
inspiration /story behind this
So we as women are our worst critics. When it comes to our career, our friends, our passions and even the most amazing gifts God has given us … our bodies. We put ourselves on unnecessary peddle stools that are at times unrealistic and simply unattainable. Rather than working on what really matter which is our inner beauty we focus on our shells. We women have this mechanism in us which I like to call. “Let’s fix the world”. Even when we meet men… We take them in love them “”disque”" unconditionally and then change everything about them to only complain. Rather than adapting and compromising so we can live in harmony. It’s the same concept with our bodies. . This shows the superficial imperfections. I have left her scarred and did the stitching for the so called “trouble spots”. Which most importantly was over her mouth. I stitched its tight, because at the moment we start to nip and tuck… this and that, we silence what makes us unique our inner bellesa’ and in essence our creator…
